GET TO KNOW OUR EXPOSITION
ENYKY, BENYKY, KLIKY BÉ … – to be a child 150 years ago
We perceive childhood as one of the most beautiful stages of life. A new long-term exhibition will introduce you to children 150 years ago in Mladá Boleslav and its surroundings. Through authentic memories, we look into the lives of children in the city and in the countryside. We will find out what was the position of the children in the family, what were the responsibilities of the children, or how the teaching took place at school. And what were your favorite games and toys? An exhibition waiting for your visit will also tell you that.
COUNTRY IN THE CHANGES OF TIME
Another part of the permanent museum exhibition shows life in the village and in the smaller towns of our region in the 19th and 1st half of the 20th century. The individual parts are dedicated to the country house, self-government and festivities and entertainment, which alternated weekdays filled with ordinary work. The local inn used to be an important center of many important social events for the village, so our museum exposition clearly shows the inn interior. It hosted regular “music” and large wedding and other banquets. However, in the inns there was an opportunity for other types of entertainment. As a rule, various nomadic theater companies also set up a stage in them, some of which also operated a puppet theater. After all, puppet theaters were kept in some inns as a permanent inventory, which was used by local amateurs. The exhibition continues by recalling the sugar and brewing industries, two industrial branches that were strongly represented in the Mladá Boleslav region. The development of transport, especially rail transport, is also mentioned. The last part of the exhibition is dedicated to some traditional crafts – shoemaking, tailoring – and very specific cattail knitting, until the 20th century, widespread in Bakov.
BAROQUE WORKSHOP OF THE FAMILY JELÍNEK
The long-term exhibition presents a set of wooden sculptures made by members of the Jelínek family for sacral spaces in Mladá Boleslav and its vicinity. The Jelínek family sculpture studio, based in nearby Kosmonosy, worked here continuously from the 1770s until the beginning of the 19th century. The special works of the Jelínkov workshop can be found not only in the Mladá Boleslav region, but also in the Jičín, Semily, Turnov and Liberec regions. The patriots of Boleslav will certainly welcome the opportunity to see huge sculptures of angels from the Jelínkov workshop, which belonged to the original equipment of the main altar of the Boleslav church of St. Havel. The set of small statues of the Fourteen Holy Helpers made for the church in Dobrovice and borrowed from the depository of the Diocese of Litoměřice is also charming.
